About Me

Hey everyone!  My name is Mike and I am an air traffic controller based in the Long Island are of New York.  I’ve loved aviation for my entire life and love that I get to be involved every single day.  During my college years I began my private pilot license and finished that up after completing my time at the FAA academy.  I was forced to take a small break from flying when my two kids were born but have recently got back in the saddle.  I’ve been working on my instrument rating and planning to get my kids involved as they get a bit older.

So why this?

I love doing cross country flights and exploring small airports and places.  It has allowed me to visit places that I’d never fly commercially to, especially as a family.  Having the ability to fly somewhere myself and not worry about renting is my key objective.  I’ve done a ton of research and have found that building the plane I want is much more affordable then buying one outright.

I began to research plane purchases and experimental aircraft, and the idea of buying a plane with many people doesn’t interest me.  To buy an aircraft of capabilities which interest me would require 5 or more partners and finding that many I trust seems unlikely.

I’ve done tons of research and want an aircraft capable of 150+ knots True Airspeed, Higher Ceiling, A solid IFR platform, and a useful load that would allow the family to fly together.  Through my search, I’ve found a few options however the choices are limited.  I’ve finally decided on one mode which has a huge support network, lots of builders, and has a community feel within the builders. I’ve been participating inside them for a few months and love how helpful they all are to each other.

So what am I building? I’ve finally decided on a Vans Aircraft RV-10.  So now this multi-year journey begins.
